Now that we have Import Reactor Drift behind us, it’s time for the main course, Import Reactor Unlimited 2010. For those of you who having been hiding under a rock, this is the show where the best of the best compete for the year’s show bragging rights, and it’s all held at the Marriot Hotel in The Woodlands, TX, just north of Houston.

Wow. What. A. Weekend.
The week started with Smoky Nagata from Top Secret Japan tuning Nissans from Monday all the way through wednesday late night, and it closed with Import Reactor Unlimited and Anime Matsuri. But before the official and epic weekend got started, Import Reactor Drift was to be the opening ceremonies to Import Reactor Unlimited.

Wednesday was the last day for Smoky Nagata to dyno tune the last batch of Nissans in Houston which happened to be open to the public as well. Fans from all over stopped by Secret Services Auto to see the legend doing what he does best.

Before you start making fart noises and jokes because of my less than funny tagline, know that Victor Sun is a rising star right here in Texas. Victor has been drifting since 2006, but actually started drifting in California where most of the US based drifting comes from. In Cali, he attended numerous Drift Day events, and even started his own Drift group, 626 Drift Crew.

Before the glitz, glamour and hot women in bikinis that Professional drifting provides, at it’s core, drifting is an underground, grassroots type of automotive sport. These underground drift sessions take place mainly at night, in secluded areas typically around industrial parks. Alex Berrios, local drifter and 786Motoring groupie, will be taking his shot at Import Reactor Drift 2010, and by the looks of it, he has a damned good chance with his signature Balls-to-the-wall style.

As I write this post at 3am, I had just got back from Secret Services Auto about an hour away from where I stay. The dyno sessions are going well, and Smoky is relentless, and a true perfectionist when it comes to tuning. As soon as Nagata-san arrives to Secret Services, he puts on his game face and gets to work. He is a tuning machine!

Bringing some JDM goodness to the table for I.R. Drift this year is Cody Surman. Cody, the senior of the local drifters competing in Import Reactor Drift will be running and gunning in his JZX100 Chaser. Drifting pretty is about the most “on point” phrase that describes Cody and his uber clean Chaser when it slides around the track. But don’t be confused by the cars devilishly good looks, because Cody is bringing the heat.

The Mayday Garage crew got a chance to check up on the twin white Z’s being built by Planet Zero and Baker-Jackson Nissan. As you recall, these twin Z34′s are being built in preparation for Smoky Nagata’s arrival here in Houston. These 370′s will undergo a very drastic transformation as they will go from showroom stock, to track/show shock. Maydaygarage will be here documenting this event, and this past thursday, I got a chance to see what these cars were going through.

Yet another drifter hailing from Houston, Texas is Joshua Steele. Josh, who does not suffer from any type of mental disorders plans to bring his madness to the table for Import Reactor Drift. You always know when Mr. Steele is on the way to a drift event because he hauls about town in a monster Excursion pulling his drift car in style. Josh too has the drive to podium at I.R. Drift 2010, and he says he is bringing the big guns!

Hailing from Seabrook (Houston Area), Tx comes BMW drifter Chelsea DeNofa. Chelsea, a Philly native, has been drifting across America since 2003. According to many of the interviews that we have given for Import Reactor Drift, it seems that Mr. DeNofa is the man to beat on April 1st. With a turbo charged electric money green BMW E36 M3, Chelsea too has a bit of weight that he will be bringing to the table.
