Tokyo Auto Salon 2016

What’s a media outlet blog like Mayday Garage supposed to do when they are rejected for Press and Vendor passes from Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS)? We attend as spectators and enjoy our stay in Japan!

I originally planned to get some coverage of the show but after being denied passes under ‘Mayday Garage’ multiple times, we decided to just attend one day as spectators. It was disappointing but we’re not really “working press” so we can’t blame them for denying us either.  Either way, we had tickets to Japan for cheap and we weren’t going to waste time trying to get into TAS for free. We did what normal car enthusiasts do, and purchased Friday’s early access spectator passes.

If you haven’t been to TAS before, it consists of 4 halls filled with vendors and some of Japan’s finest display cars.  It is pretty much a Japanese version of SEMA. It can be a little overwhelming to try and cover all in one day, which is why it’s open 3 days to the public.

I’ll post a couple of photos in this post and more later on…

Since we weren’t really there for coverage, I decided to pack light and only used my Nikon D750 and 50mm…

TAS shows always impress me with their booth lighting. Almost perfect conditions to capture cars like this BRZ STi edition…

Top Fuel brought out their Time Attack S2000-RR again this year….

Check out that GCG Garrett GTX3582R snail…

The new Mugen Civic Type R…

Mugen details… you already know these parts cost an arm and a leg…

326Power’s booth had some really clean builds… really aggressive… but clean…

I tried sticking my crack nail under one of the fenders… couldn’t get it under… pretty impressed…

I’m a fan of Advan Racing and Porsche… so seeing a center lug wheel on a 991 GT3 was pretty nice to see…

Finally got to see the Toyota FT-1 Concept in person…

The lines and curves of the FT-1 were well done…

Liberty Walk unveiled their S30 Z kit… kinda reminds me of Sung Kang’s S30 Z but with livery…

White on white never looked better… especially on RWB Natty Dread Jr…

Star Road’s mirrorless S30Z with some 0% tint…

Why? Bc Japan…

Frank Downstar getting a photo with Tein booth’s Dampatty…

Garage Rise Up FD RX7 with an updated Miata ND bumper…
