Mayday Garage Year in Review: Part 5b (FINAL)

Continuing on from part 5a… (CLICK HERE FOR PART 5a)

The second specialty meet we had was the WekFest TX official PreMeet at the same place. We had originally tried to have the meet in downtown itself, but with city regulations, permits and all sorts of legal hurdles, we had to rule this one out. We even tried to host it down the street of Washington Avenue, but in order to do that, we again would need many permits, waivers, insurance and more importantly, we needed to have booked this event many many many months in advance. We decided to have it again at Moon Tower Inn because of the great success we had with the JNCM, but our only real concern was if the venue was big enough.
Three Hondas, three gigantic wings

Big enough? Let us explain, the year before this one in 2014, we had held the first official WekFest PreMeet at 8th Wonder Brewery located just a few miles away from Moon Tower Inn, and we thought at the time we would have enough space. Well, it turns out that there were so many cars encompassing all of the side streets and parking lots, we physically didn’t have enough space to park all 1000+ cars. So with Moon Tower, there is a much longer street, but the side streets were much smaller. We had permission to use some of the industrial buildings surrounding the area, and we even rented some portable heavy duty lights to keep everything well lit, but this time, there were even MORE cars than years past.

We shut down the east side of Downtown Houston that night. It was the greatest ricer night of the year, and by far our most successful meet we had thrown this far. Parked in front we had Rami’s super sick Honda S2000 fresh with a new turbo motor setup rolling in from Louisiana, Bradley Lafayette’s RHD carbon fiber J’s Racing wide body VGS S2K from Tennessee, and J.Cald’s completely insane shaved, tucked, all of the above Acura Integra from RC’s Garage in Arizona that would eventually win best of show the next day at Wekfest. On google maps, the entire grid was lit up red from all the traffic. Canal street ended up being a “catwalk” for people to strut their stuff. Our friends from StickyDilJoe and WekFest were amazed at what we had created, and even more amazed at the cooperation from the Houston Police Department. We had zero instances, and everything was orderly for the most part. Food from both Moon Tower Inn and our own Ricebox was on point, and the beer served at Moon Tower Inn kept everyone happy.

As 2014 is now on our greatest hits list, 2015 will be moving even faster and we expect to show off some truly unique stuff both in products and events as well as with our own personal cars that reflect our tastes. We invite all who truly love cars to make it out to one of our meets/events and to be together as a community and enjoy other peoples’ builds.

Goodbye, 2014. Hello 2015! The year of the RICE!

Success! WFTX Weekend.

As we catch up on some much deserved sleep from the past weekend, we wanted to stop and say thank you to all of those involved to make WekFest TX weekend a runaway success…
We would like to take this time to recognize all the people that helped us get through WekFest TX weekend. Big thanks to all that came to the PreMeet early to help us fill in the spots before things got absolutely batshit crazy with the thousand plus cars that eventually filled the streets in the most epic meet Houston has ever seen.

Special thanks goes out to Rami and all of his Low-Weezy-Ana people including Brian, Wesley, Jonathan, Mikey and Jimmy for bringing out their show winning rides. Thanks to Jay and RC for bringing what would be the WekFest TX Best of Show Integra all the way in from Arizona. That Integra was hands down the nicest build we’ve laid eyes on, holy hell, well deserved! Thanks to Bradley Lafayette and his girlfriend Leisha for driving in the RHD all carbon J’s Racing Honda S2000, our boy Danny wishes he could have been there with you this year! Thanks to all of our special guests, Roy Moncada, Thomas Pinai, Matt Hans, Fredy Gomez, Peck, Tom Syhachack, Tito, Cody Crochett, Kevin Guevara and his team of S2000’s on CCW’s, Kevin Tran, Chan Le, Michael Austin Heath, Henry Do, Jorge and Tony from Potresse, Hajime Maki and Tiny.

Thanks to all the volunteers that did so much work at the actual meet including Kishan Panchal and his friends, Craig Kelly, Brandon Primes, Alejandro Velasquez and everyone else we forgot. That was a HUGE load off of our shoulders and we cannot thank you guys enough. Also thanks to the girls that helped work the merchandise this past weekend including Jessyca Blood, Jessica McCaffrey, Liz Reinhard and Jenny Vo. You gals are great at selling and keeping things organized behind the scenes. Thanks goes out to the guys at Moon Tower-Inn Houston for allowing such a gigantic meet to happen on the streets of Houston and for allowing us to take over the entire venue. Of course none of this is possible without the collaboration of the entire staff at Wekfest USA including Kenneth Li, Ernesto Jr Sarmiento, Geoffrey Nguyen, Wesley Katayama and the rest. You guys have made WFTX weekend a weekend for everyone in Texas and the surrounding areas to look forward to and to force people to step their game up, you have done so much for the car scene, and mad respect for you guys to come out every year. Thank you Steve Lim from Mackin Industries and Hun at ASAA racing for allowing us to share your booth space with us. We are honored that you let us join forces to showcase some of your wheels and brake products, we will HAVE to collaborate again in the future as we use only RAYS/ADVAN/Project Mu products on our own cars. And of course, thanks goes out to the team at Mayday Garage which consists of John Peterson, David Do, Danh Phan, Andrew Machac, Mikey Nguyen, Khiem Pham, John Markadakis, Fabio Pontes and Princeton Wong. Special thanks to Princeton for getting the Hakosuka out on the streets LEGALLY and for stopping everyone dead in their tracks at WekFest.

We strive to keep the Houston car scene alive and we will continue to bring the best of the best out at our shindigs. There is so much more to look forward to, and we won’t stop. Next Stop: Tokyo, Japan.

Mayday Garage X The Chronicles WekFest TX Official PreMeet 12.14.13.

It’s official!

Everyone knows we throw some pretty cool meets. We don’t do them too often because if they’re not cool, we won’t do them at all.

Weksos Industries asked us some time ago to host the WekFest TX official Pre Meet and it is our pleasure to present to you what we’ve been working on for quite some time.

On December 14th, 2013, the night before the WekFest TX car show, we will be hosting Houston’s largest Street Style meet we’ve ever attempted at the 8th Wonder Brewery located on 2202 Dallas St, Houston, TX 77003.

Mayday Garage has rented out the brewery for the entire night, and 8th Wonder Brewery will be giving out free beer tours, as well as pouring $3 pints all night long (CASH ONLY!). If you haven’t heard of this brewery, it was started by the same guys that own and operate The Eatsie Boys food truck, which will also be in attendance. Speaking of food trucks, no ricer meet would be complete without bringing out our very own food truck, The Rice Box.

We have also collaborated with our long time friend, Joey Lee, aka, Stickydiljoe, aka The Chronicles to help us throw this awesome event. With his help, we will be pulling cars from all around the TX and third coast states.

With everyone coming in from different cities and states for the greatest car show in Houston, it’s time to show the rest of the world how Houston gets down. We’ve all built our cars to drive, park or track it to our tastes, and it’s time to show where our Street culture lives- on the street.

We have driven up and down the surrounding streets where the Brewery is located and although there are a few dips and bumps around, every car can make it through, IF you use common sense. We will post a “Dumped Friendly” route soon as we get closer to the date.

More details to come.

Prepare thy anuses.

A Random Visit to Chicago Pt. 1: The Final FNL of the Year

While David is hustling his ass off in the East Coast, I guess I’ll have to contribute something since I’ve been MIA for awhile now. I thought about my trips last year around the U.S. and found Chicago to be the one of the best places to visit, mainly because of the badass skylines, buildings, and people. Southwest airlines happened to have their $69 one way ticket deals so I took advantage of that and booked a ticket to Chicago for 4 days. I had planned to go alone, but since my friend and brother had never been, I invited them to go as well. The trip ended up being an eating fest starting from the time we had landed til the time we had departed back home to Houston. Luckily, I got away for a few hours to attend a car meet at a Toyota dealership in Palatine, IL. It was a good 30-45 minutes NW of downtown Chicago. Now how did I get there if I didn’t rent a car?

I had 10 minutes to take this photo while learning how to work a tripod I've never used before…

A few days before arriving to Chicago, I contacted Ginash of JDMChicago, since he was “the guy” who would know if anything was going on that weekend. A car meet happened to be scheduled the day I had arrived into town called FNL (Friday Night Lights) Saturdays. I had to think of a way to get to the car meet so I asked Ginash if he knew of a way for me to get there. Within a couple of minutes he emails me the contact information of Max L. and what he will be driving. A badass black VIP Style Lexus IS250. I wish I had pulled out my camera as he pulled around the corner because you would not expect something that nice and low to ride around the streets of Chicago.

Ginash explains why he poses like this to Michael and Max.

Max's VIP Lexus IS250 was my ride to the meet.

After getting picked up in style, we headed out to Ginash’s to meet up with the rest of the JDMC crew. There we met up with Michael in his Blue Evo X, Jason and his 535i, and of course Ginash rolled out with his Imola Orange NSX.

The fashionable transporter cars for JDMChicago.

Probably my favorite combo of all time: EVO X with TE's.

Jason's 535i rolling shot from the back.

I forgot how hard it was to do rolling shots while sticking your head and camera out at 80 MPH.

Ginash's Imola Orange NSX with matching color brakes rolling to the meet.

Event Coverage: College Park Tuning Spring Meet.

A few months ago, I got an email from a guy named Keith Maddock who has been following our blog for some time and knew that I had just recently moved to the East Coast. In the email, he informed me that he was one of the founding members of the University of Maryland’s car club, College Park Tuning (CPT) and that he wanted me to come and check out this year’s springtime meet held not at the University of Maryland, but at Bowie Baysox Stadium in Bowie, MD, near D.C. He went on to tell me it was a huge meet, and that it would be well worth my time because a lot of the cars get cabin fever and strut their stuff at this meet.

Hot shit. A very subtle NSX with some key performance upgrades will always catch my eye
