Event Coverage: College Park Tuning Spring Meet.

A few months ago, I got an email from a guy named Keith Maddock who has been following our blog for some time and knew that I had just recently moved to the East Coast. In the email, he informed me that he was one of the founding members of the University of Maryland’s car club, College Park Tuning (CPT) and that he wanted me to come and check out this year’s springtime meet held not at the University of Maryland, but at Bowie Baysox Stadium in Bowie, MD, near D.C. He went on to tell me it was a huge meet, and that it would be well worth my time because a lot of the cars get cabin fever and strut their stuff at this meet.

A Day at Import Face-Off.

It’s cold here in the NE. Not like blizzard cold, mind you, but cold enough where people just don’t plain drive their cars. If you’ve noticed recently, I haven’t put up much content from here in Maryland, and I’ve even posted two pictures of my daily car, the Miata, on the blog which isn’t something I would normally do. The reason? It’s freaking cold, man!

Random Snap: Gangsta.

I had the opportunity to travel out with the guys from IAG Performance today to show off Joy’s WRX at an Import Face-Off event held in Crofton, MD, just 25 minutes from where I live.

Here’s one picture I really wanted to share.

GANGSTA at heart

Nuff said. More pics to come!

Event Coverage: Wek’Fest Pre-Meet at Baker Tuning part 2.

In part one of our coverage, I just posted a bunch of pictures, cause I was just wanting to throw out a small portion of our pictures before the internet got flooded with others.

So now I’m gonna throw out a LOT more photos so our readers can see what went down.

Ronald's 1JZ powered FD was turning all sorts of heads

And here they started to roll in and it wasn't even time for meet to start!

The Powerful and Fabulous PowerFab G35. All show, and all Go.

Yes, people weren't just sitting by their cars...

The Strictly G'z crew showed up in strong numbers.

If you guessed this FD had a non-rotary motor, you guessed right.

The crowd listens as JohnP calls out Bingo Balls.

Jk. He was calling out names in our free raffle for swag, but on weekends JohnP does play Bingo

JTran Studios Summer Meet ver. 2011.

JTran Studios, named aptly after it’s owner, Johnny Tran (not the guy who got narc’d out), has been a positive driving force in Houston’s Tuner scene since owning Wings West Touring wings were cool. As such, this local North Houston shop which houses an AWD Mustang Dyno and work-bays-a-plenty, has seen it’s fair share of different types of trends fall and rise. Something I absolutely admire about JTran studios is it’s “Total Tuning” mindset which is very common to see in tuner shops in Japan. What is “Total Tuning”? In a word, everything. Suspension work, big brake conversions, interiors, sound systems, aero work, and of course engine modifications that are include, but not limited to; forced induction, dyno tuning, fabrication and serious engine builds. Some shops concentrate on only one or two areas, but the folks at JTran Studios “get it”, and the cars that come from this respective shop are typically cars that we see setting the bar at meets and shows here locally.

Deja Vu: Greg Lilly’s “Matte Hulk” Impreza WRX STI

Yup, that is no typo, for a third time Greg Lilly graces our page with yet another RICETASTIC build, a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Look familiar?

That’s right, Greg’s STI has been here before, and in case you missed the feature, check it out here!

The first time we featured this Subie it was dipped in black and sat on SBC finished SSR SP3s. 19×9.5 +35 NR Disk up front and 19×9.5 +35 SL Disk in the rear with a slew of other modifications that made his STI sit pretty. Now, if you don’t know all that much about Greg, or missed his first feature then I’ll fill you in on a little fact about what he does on a daily basis. Greg owns a graphics and vinyl shop called Underground Graphics here in Houston, and as of late he has been experimenting with some new products. This time around, one of these products just happened to be some matte green 3M-vehicle wrap…

Backing up a bit, after our first shoot with Greg’s STI, he had decided that it was time to put the car up for sale and move on to a new platform. But after minimal luck selling, he started to get the itch for a change. So a few weeks ago Greg called me and told me that he was going to be giving his STI a new look and that 3M wrap was going to be the major components for the change. Now I am pretty certain that everyone that comes across our blog is familiar with, or has seen this wrap on cars before. I have to admit I was at first a bit skeptical, but when I saw the new look in person I was nothing short of impressed and I knew that a shoot was to commence.

Max Res Mondays: Holy Jeebus.

Taken by Khiem at this past All-Team Bash 4, this Fancy red Lexus LS was sitting pretty along with the other Refined Elegance folk. You can’t tell in the picture, but it was about 104 degrees outside, and when you add in the wind chill factor, it comes out to be about 112 degrees. Texas is hot, but still not hotter than the cars, so remember that. As usual, click on the photo below to get your fix for your overly enormous screens.

Oh you fancy, huh?

Event Coverage: The 4th Annual All Team Bash

Four years ago one man had an idea. An idea that translated into the single largest car meet that Houston now sees on a yearly basis.
Kimo, head honcho for SunWorks, a local Houston area car club that now has spanned over the nation through different chapters, brainstormed an idea that would unite Houston area car clubs for one event. Instead of competing with each other to see who had the best rides, he envisioned that clubs would get together and get to know one another, and instead compete for who had the best barbecue. The meet was christened, “All Team Bash”.
