Car Shop GLOW FD LED Taillight Progress Report.

Okay so many of you have blown up our inbox lately asking about the taillights that we had made from Car Shop GLOW for the FD3S RX-7. Yes, we are in the final stage right before shipping. The custom CSG metal badges are now made and riveted on each taillight for authenticity and we are only waiting for the final smoke/tint job on the taillights. We should have some in our possession in about 1.5 – 2 weeks. We will (excitedly) install them, test them, make sure there are no condensation leaks, and photograph and record video so you yourself can judge them. Here are some photos of the progress!

Yes, CSG works on many cars. Typically high end European cars.

The Crowd Pleaser. Sometimes.

We know you’ve all seen Khiem’s FD RX-7 a billion times on the internet, but for whatever reason, most people have never “really” seen it aside from some small local car meets. Lately, it’s been on stage at last month’s Cars & Coffee and even more recently, TX2K14, where this type of car belongs.

TA22 Celicas at the Box Office.

So if any of you gearheads have watched Rush, the movie about the rivalry between James Hunt and Nikki Lauda, you may or may not have seen the two classic TA22 Celicas at the end of the final race. What intrigues me is not the fact that these Celicas were thrown in because it was a Japanese Grand Prix, but because they are either real immaculate JDM cars, or someone on that Movie set understood the importance of having authentic looking Japanese Celicas complete with “Smiley” bumpers and other JDM accents. Simplicity is Key.

You would think that the guys at Mayday Garage are all about wild shit on cars based on how some of us modify our cars, but you’d be wrong if you thought that’s all we enjoy. Although “Wheels and a drop” is a common phrase you’ll see on many car forums, sometimes, just sometimes, it has some truth behind it. Take these two examples below: One is a four door 3-series BMW and the other is a Toyota MR2 Turbo. At first glance, they may both seem like stockish cars, but there’s something to be said about certain cars that don’t necessarily “need” aero enhancements. The gunmetal centers on this black BMW accent the dark, sinister look of the Bimmer, and the bright gold centers on the BBS LM’s pop so much against the green SW20 MR2. While the US definitely went through a clean OEM +1 look for years, we feel that today’s trends are leading to more radical looks as seen on the latest Rocket Bunny/Liberty Walk/RWB creations, but there’ll always be a place for fine machines that won’t lose their appeal over time with a great set of wheels, clean paint, and a good lowered stance.

So Mellow.

Although there were MANY cars at All Team Bash in Rosenberg a few weeks ago, there were only a small handful of cars that caught my eye. This yellow CRX was definitely one that stood out from the rest. It’s small, petite, boxy stature reminds us of a time where it wasn’t about having lots of turbocharged horsepower, it was about it’s nimbleness, it’s ability to zip in and around traffic and be constantly engaged in the drive, something a lot of modern cars took away with it’s stability/traction controls, paddle shifters and electronic suspension. It was built in a time when having a small, lightweight car was what people wanted, and to this day, I still want one.

The Japanese Si-R front end makes the CRX a little more aggressive with it's hood, vented front bumper and bigger headlights

We really liked the wheel choice here.
