Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet 9.27.14

We have heard your cries. You’ve messaged us, you’ve emailed us, you’ve commented on our videos, we hear you. After a 3 year hiatus, it’s time to bring back one of our most favorite gatherings we’ve ever had- The Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet!

Clear your calendars for Saturday, September 27th, as we bring back the best cars of yesteryear for our vintage car meeting at world renowned Moon Tower Inn located at 3004 Canal St. right here in downtown Houston, TX. This will be the largest gathering of classic (pre-1990) Japanese cars ever attempted in the great state of Texas and invite all car enthusiasts to attend. We will have a very large section of the street dedicated to these never forgotten vintage machines, but that doesn’t mean that if you don’t own a nostalgic car you can’t come! Canal street is a very large flat road that can easily accommodate a few hundred cars.

This message is basically a heads up to you classic car guys to get your rides ready! You have over a month to get that heap going, and believe us, you do NOT want to miss this meet. We invite all Hako’s, Corollas, Starlets, Coronas, Crowns, Cressidas, Celicas, GTO’s, GTX’s, Starions, VR-4’s, FB/FC RX-7’s, 510’s, Datsun trucks, 240/260/280’s, wagons, Mazda RX’s, REPU’s, Civic’s, CRX’s, Fairlady’s, 360’s, and everything else! We have a few secret weapons that will be showing their rides from different states for the very first time so you do not want to miss this.

TA22 Celicas at the Box Office.

So if any of you gearheads have watched Rush, the movie about the rivalry between James Hunt and Nikki Lauda, you may or may not have seen the two classic TA22 Celicas at the end of the final race. What intrigues me is not the fact that these Celicas were thrown in because it was a Japanese Grand Prix, but because they are either real immaculate JDM cars, or someone on that Movie set understood the importance of having authentic looking Japanese Celicas complete with “Smiley” bumpers and other JDM accents. Check out the screencap.

OTWeb: S30 Z’s, how I love thee.

I love most all cars, but I have strong feelings towards Japanese nostalgic classic cars. There are just so many, from classic Toyota Celicas, Mazda rotaries and Datsun dimes to Mitsubishi GTO’s and Honda S500’s. Unfortunately, many of the kids nowadays don’t know about classic Japanese cars past the Toyota Corolla (AE86). That is, unless they’ve been playing Wangan Midnight on their Playstations and Xboxes.

The Datsun/Nissan S30 240Z was Nissan’s very first affordable sports coupe available to the public masses back in the early 70’s. With it’s timeless styling, punchy inline 6 cylinder motor, and it’s very trackable suspension, it was easy to see why these cars were so popular. These cars have an almost cult-like following, and is not just limited to Japan, but all over the world.

So sexy, it hurts. A modified Z is an instant classic.
