The Crowd Pleaser. Sometimes.

We know you’ve all seen Khiem’s FD RX-7 a billion times on the internet, but for whatever reason, most people have never “really” seen it aside from some small local car meets. Lately, it’s been on stage at last month’s Cars & Coffee and even more recently, TX2K14, where this type of car belongs.

When the hood goes up, everyone crowds around within seconds at Cars & Coffee

Sitting pretty with the three rotary powered FD's at TX2K14

Most people think FD's don't make an insane amount of power, especially at TX2K

Until that hood goes up

I believe "dick magnet" is the correct term as Linhbergh and Khiem demonstrates

Man/dick power

Sitting Still.

Khiem still shoots cars. He’s been inactive lately with photos mainly because his time has been tied up with his moneypit, the 2JZGTE FD RX-7. Yesterday he had a chance to take it to work so that he could drive it to a local Houston RX-7 meet afterwards. During his downtime, he managed to take a nice shot of the car in a ho-hum surrounding.

Period Blood Red.

Yep. Still got it.

Random Snap: True

When we met the owner of Wek’Fest Texas’ Best of Show winner, Thomas Pinai, I thought his little boy Kai, was rather cute as he stood next to his daddy’s slammed GS. I asked if it were okay if our photographer Khiem could take a shot next to his car, and he agreed. Too bad Kai himself was rather bashful around our lenses, he would run back to mommy and daddy even after they tried tricking him multiple times with some delicious treats. We never did get “the shot” that I wanted, but what Khiem managed to get was even better than what I had planned. He caught a quick snap of Kai looking at rims as big as he was with papa Pinai right behind him, squatting down to both their levels.

Say hai to kai

The kid moved too fast for Khiem! He should look into doing Track and Field

This is what they call the "money shot"

Thomas sent me this picture of the picture he had made and framed which now sits right where it should be, in their home. This is pretty significant to me as I’ve seen many car tuners that are sometimes made to make the tough choice of giving up their cars for their families (as it should be), but in this situation, at least two loves of Thomas’ life are now captured in one epic picture.

This makes me all warm and tingly inside.

You’ll be seeing more of this car soon, as well as little Kai!

Random Snaps: Fo Hunded millie.

So Canon USA let our photographer Danh borrow a lens of his choice. Danh’s mentality was to get a lens he would never be able to justify spending the money on. What did he get? The elusive 400mm 2.8 IS L behemoth. This lens is typically for bird watchers, but not in our hands…. So what is our ace photographer Khiem shooting? Find out next week!

Overkill? Maybe. Badass? Definitely.

What's on the other side of that lens??

We also bathe together
