Texas Drifting: Henry Swasey Does Lonestar Drift Round 1

If you have been keeping up with drifitng in Texas you are now well aware that Aaron Losey of Fabricated Motorsports has started a 2011 Lonestar Texas drift series. Round 1 took place at Nonstop Tuning’s anniversary car show event. MaydayGarage was present, but unfortunately we had to skip out early….so you wont be finding any pictures here, however, Henry Swasey from Team Silhouette caught some great coverage. Long story short, Silhouette underdog Robert Lee took the win of Round 1 in his 113 hp AE86 by being tapped by last year XDC series winner Chelsea DeNofa. The first round of the series had a great turnout and is looking very promising! Check the video from Henry Swasey!

Texas Drifting: The Fabricated Motorsports Tech Day Prelude to the 2011 Drift Series

In case you haven’t heard yet, Aaron Losey the organizer of 98% of drift events in Texas will be hosting a Texas drift series this year in 2011. The introduction to this series was a “dial-in” day held at local tuner shop Powerfab that was composed of horsepower ratings, weight and steering angle for every car. Although all cars competing in the series were not present at the event, you get a general idea of the competitors in the series. Check out the video for the details, definitely a great intro to the 2011 Texas drift series.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Drifting in the early 90s

During the week-long Holiday celebrations, I had a chance to reminisce with my siblings and cousins of the silly things we used to do when we were young. The unforgettable moments that we laugh at till today. That gave me the idea for today’s  Nostalgic Wednesday.

Here are some videos I found of the drifting scene in Japan early 90s. Back then, as we set our time to when there was less competition, less hype, it was all about the hobby, it was all about just going out and having fun with friends who share a common interest.

I love how the background music perfectly exemplifies  the mood of each video.

Please excuse the video quality, they have been transfered from a VHS copy. (lol)

This shows that not all Japanese drivers can drift as soon as they get their license. Most of the well known drifters started somewhere, they spun a lot of times before mastering the corners. A perfect example of practice makes perfect. And as we reach our prime, we look back on to those days and realize how far we’ve gone, the feeling of achievement.

On the Run Shoot: Robert Turnbow’s Candy MX73 Toyota Cressida

This past weekend we were out at Powerfab Automotive for the dial-in session for the Texas drift cars for the 2011 season.  Being from Texas we are pretty much familiar with most of the cars that rolled out and some even changed their faces for the 2011 season, one person inparticular was Robert Turnbow and his MX73 Toyota Cressida.  When Robert rolled to the event with candy red literally dripping off his frame, we looked, and then smiled.  Usually you catch people on the course with the latter generation 83 like our ol’ buddy Ameen but Robert decided to keep it old school with his x7…

Formula D Irwindale: Part 3- The Women of Formula D.

Oh you already know.

I’ve been getting hit up left and right about making a post dedicated to all of the “shorties” that were in attendance at FormulaD. Katy Perry and the Beach Boys made a song about it, so what is there to say about Californian girls? HOT.

I’m not even gonna say anything else. I will let the pictures do the talking.

Formula D Irwindale: The Mayday Perspective pt. 1

Seven deep and over 1000 miles from home, Mayday Garage ventured out to the west coast to watch and cover the finals of North America’s premiere drift series, Formula D. Drifting, Hardparkers and Shorties were on our agenda for the duration of our stay in California and I think we accomplished our goal. Today we are going to venture into the core of Formula D, Drift. Formula D Final round was taken by the Rockstar NASCAR Motorplant Scion, driven by Tanner Foust. Following him for the day was series points leader Vaughn Gittin Jr. Our friend Linhbergh from Speedhunters had told us that we had picked a great event to go to because the amount of drama that ensued throughout the event. From series rivalries to wrecks, we witnessed an amazing event for sure.

Last years series winner, Chris Forsberg. Consistent all day, but a spin out would take him out.
