Nostalgic Wednesdays: Honda Life

Some of you may know, (or if it’s obvious) I’ m a Honda fan, from cars to motorcycles. I may drive a German car but a factory fresh lookin’ CR-X rolling down the freeway ooh still breaks my neck. For today’s Nostalgic Wednesday, I would like to share a site that I have been visiting for the past few years, it’s the Honda Japan website (lol). Seriously, I visit the site specifically for Bow’s Gallery.

popular "post a pic of your pet" among s2000 owners.

Ikeda Kazuhiro, commonly known as “Bow” was commissioned by Honda Japan to paint Honda cars, bikes, lawnmowers, and other products. He creates this works of art with a dreamy effect (Power of dreams perhaps?).  The reason why I keep on coming back to visit his gallery is because I admire how he creates a picture of a simple, relaxed life. It’s a picture that you would imagine of you, sitting on your lawn chair drinking an ice cold lemonade and staring at your car on a sunday afternoon with your dog. It’s Honda life, a life how Honda wanted their customers to enjoy with their products.

Deja Vu: Greg Lilly’s “Matte Hulk” Impreza WRX STI

Yup, that is no typo, for a third time Greg Lilly graces our page with yet another RICETASTIC build, a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Look familiar?

That’s right, Greg’s STI has been here before, and in case you missed the feature, check it out here!

The first time we featured this Subie it was dipped in black and sat on SBC finished SSR SP3s. 19×9.5 +35 NR Disk up front and 19×9.5 +35 SL Disk in the rear with a slew of other modifications that made his STI sit pretty. Now, if you don’t know all that much about Greg, or missed his first feature then I’ll fill you in on a little fact about what he does on a daily basis. Greg owns a graphics and vinyl shop called Underground Graphics here in Houston, and as of late he has been experimenting with some new products. This time around, one of these products just happened to be some matte green 3M-vehicle wrap…

Backing up a bit, after our first shoot with Greg’s STI, he had decided that it was time to put the car up for sale and move on to a new platform. But after minimal luck selling, he started to get the itch for a change. So a few weeks ago Greg called me and told me that he was going to be giving his STI a new look and that 3M wrap was going to be the major components for the change. Now I am pretty certain that everyone that comes across our blog is familiar with, or has seen this wrap on cars before. I have to admit I was at first a bit skeptical, but when I saw the new look in person I was nothing short of impressed and I knew that a shoot was to commence.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: EG6 Civic WhiteCrow Bumper

Ahh after reading  Jose’s Monster Civic feature, vtec kicked in and brought be back to how I used to want an EG civic hatchback. I wanted to have a clean captiva blue pearl naturally aspirated 93 hatchback, monte carlo steering wheel, lowered with some 15″ SW388 wheels.

subtle and clean

What bodykit did I want for my dream hatch? Back when everything was custom made, springs were cut, and no ebay motors; I used to day dream in class of what would an EG6 look like with an EK9’s bumper. After a while, I found a Japanese company who read my mind and created a bumper that looks like an EK9’s bumper on an EG chasis; WhiteCrow Racing House….

A Lonestar Monster: Jose Jimenez Jr’s Drag EG Beast

Hondas.

Most of us started with this platform when we were starting our days of ricer hood. Infatuated by the love of VTEC, some of us stayed and some of us, well, left and grew into different platforms. One of those in the Honda cult that never turned his back to the H emblem is Jose Jimenez. Jose, like many of us out there had one objective, and that is to go fast, REAL fast. And though many talk of going fast, very few live up to the integrity that it takes to actually achieve the speed that some of us only “talk” about or dream about.

Full Frontal.

Full Frontal.

Having a balls out EG hatch in the ballpark of 950 wheel horsepower, Jose is no slouch when it comes to the language of speed. Hovering consistently in the 9 second range at the track, Jose brings the heat and that is where he keeps it. After a near fatal accident which nearly took his 16 year old life while street racing, Jose came about his wits and decided that there is only one place he is going to be keeping his cars, and that is the track.

In for the Kill.

In for the Kill.

Now here at Mayday Garage we primarily cover cars that reside on the street, but when our photo ace Khiem Pham was asked a few months ago to check out a super “clean” drag civic that an acquaintance of his knew, our curiosity was piqued.

Six months ago I got a call from Khiem that went a little something like this, “ Yo JohnP, man, I just saw one CLEAN ass drag civic that I want to shoot for the blog.” Now Khiem is an old Honda Junkie, having rolled a 500+ whp Accord in 2003, he is no noob to the Honda game so I trust his opinion.

Therefore I asked him, “What was it about the car that got your attention? I mean, drag civics are a dime a dozen…”

Curves, In all the right places.

Curves, In all the right places.

And Khiem put it simply like this, “It’s not the speed factor that gets me about this car, it’s the fact that Cali style fashion just met Texas drag and we HAVE to shoot this. From shaved bays to an ultra clean tub, this engine bay looks like it belongs in a So-Cal Honda show, no bull shit. “ …..I was sold.
