A Lonestar Monster: Jose Jimenez Jr’s Drag EG Beast

Hondas.

Most of us started with this platform when we were starting our days of ricer hood. Infatuated by the love of VTEC, some of us stayed and some of us, well, left and grew into different platforms. One of those in the Honda cult that never turned his back to the H emblem is Jose Jimenez. Jose, like many of us out there had one objective, and that is to go fast, REAL fast. And though many talk of going fast, very few live up to the integrity that it takes to actually achieve the speed that some of us only “talk” about or dream about.

Having a balls out EG hatch in the ballpark of 950 wheel horsepower, Jose is no slouch when it comes to the language of speed. Hovering consistently in the 9 second range at the track, Jose brings the heat and that is where he keeps it. After a near fatal accident which nearly took his 16 year old life while street racing, Jose came about his wits and decided that there is only one place he is going to be keeping his cars, and that is the track.

Now here at Mayday Garage we primarily cover cars that reside on the street, but when our photo ace Khiem Pham was asked a few months ago to check out a super “clean” drag civic that an acquaintance of his knew, our curiosity was piqued.

Six months ago I got a call from Khiem that went a little something like this, “ Yo JohnP, man, I just saw one CLEAN ass drag civic that I want to shoot for the blog.” Now Khiem is an old Honda Junkie, having rolled a 500+ whp Accord in 2003, he is no noob to the Honda game so I trust his opinion.

Therefore I asked him, “What was it about the car that got your attention? I mean, drag civics are a dime a dozen…”

Curves, In all the right places.

And Khiem put it simply like this, “It’s not the speed factor that gets me about this car, it’s the fact that Cali style fashion just met Texas drag and we HAVE to shoot this. From shaved bays to an ultra clean tub, this engine bay looks like it belongs in a So-Cal Honda show, no bull shit. “ …..I was sold.
