Announcement: MaydayGarage x Baker Tuning Presents- Wek’Fest Pre Meet 9/17

MaydayGarage and Baker Tuning are proud to present the official Pre-Meet for Wek’Fest this Saturday, the 17th at Baker Nissan!

Baker Nissan was generous enough to allow us to use their enormous facility to host our meet there. You’ll get a chance to check out some of the Baker Tuning cars as well as check out their huge shop. Food, music and free WekSos swag, and a chance to meet up with your fellow showgoers. Chicago had the same thing with Canibeat and Fizz Autosports for their Pre Meet, and now it’s our turn to show them how it’s done. If you can’t make the actual Wek’Fest Show in Ft. Worth on 10/15, you can at least attend this free meet right here in Houston.

Wash up those rides because you know we are going to take a butt ton of photos while we’re out there, and you know it’s going to be posted all over the interwebz.

For those of you who couldn’t come to our private meet, here’s your chance to strut your stuff, so bring that shit.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Fiat 128

In today’s economy, energy crisis, and lifestyle, many people found alternatives to save money and start to drive smaller cars. An example would be the popular Smart fortwo, Mini, Toyota iQ and the return of a classic, the Italian Fiat 500.

Fiat has been around for years but wasn’t that popular to the regular American consumer. With the new Fiat 500 being introduced again to the American market, lets look back and remember one of Fiat’s favorite classic; the Fiat 128. Upon first glance, the 128 could be mistaken for a Datsun 510, or even a  BMW 2002 with blackout kidney grills.

Rain, Rice and Beignets: Thien Le’s Fun and Functional Honda CRX.

When I was a kid, both of my parents were coffee junkies. They used to drink coffee at absurd times of the day like 4am, which now that I think about it, made perfect sense. One saturday morning, my mom came into my room at some ridiculous hour like 4am, and told me to get dressed. We used to take family road trips like many other American families, and for a time, we would visit Louisiana just for kicks. I won’t go into detail about my mom covering my eyes while we walked through the red light district on Bourbon street, but the one thing that stood out to me about New Orleans was my obsession with beignets from Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter. At the time (many moons ago, trust me), it was the only place that I knew I could get them, so it was a rare treat to get these powdered sugar coated delights. Me and my sisters would hold our breaths as we dived into the pile of beignets as my parents would sit back and enjoy yet another cup of their famous coffee. Before they started selling them in local stores, my parents would buy a bunch of their coffee beans to take back home, but I always wished we could take some beignets instead.

mmmmmm beignets...

B Series = Best Series

So wet (that's what she said)

A race CRX in the French Quarter? Normal.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: SS Works CRX

As I was cleaning up my hard drive, I stumbled on a video I had titled The “Roaring VTEC: Battle at 10,000 RPM”. The video included one of, or probably the best Honda CRX ever built; the SS Works CRX. I fell in love with this CRX for 3 reasons;

1. Back to school – The SS Works CRX with its super lightweight 720kg chassis sends the Esprit NSX, Spoon S2000 and others back to the drawing board. If I’m not mistaken, it still holds the record for the fastest NA FF around the Tsukuba running around 59s, followed by the Yellow Factory Civic.

Event Coverage: WEKFEST Chicago 2011

While the other guys were shooting Dennis To’s RX8 and private meet, I took a trip up north to visit the “Windy City” aka Chicago.   A few things I’ve learned about Chicago are 1.) Most people, if not everyone there, are pretty cool and not douche bags *cough*; 2.) Traffic going to downtown is ridiculous at all times of day; 3.) White Castle is overrated but still good at 3 A.M.; 4.) The Chicago style deep dish pizza is not meant for one person… ugh; 5.) The weather can be awesome one day and a tropical storm the next; and finally 6.) I was surprised by the amount of badass cars around the city/state that attended WekFest Chi-town.

Early ass flight from Houston to O'Hare.... 2.5 hrs.

O'Hare is supposably one of the world's busiest airport... looked pretty dead to me at 9AM.

F*** taxi’s and buses….
I’m taking the mofo’ train! Just because it was cheaper and faster.

Once I got off the train, I really had no clue where I was so… I just started following people.
I was actually in the James R. Thompson Center… aka the State building.
Roamed around downtown and saw this weird statue thing.
A big ass reflective bean in the middle of the park? Awesome.
A view of the lake.
