Nostalgic Wednesday: KING by K. Shimura

When you mention Initial D or Wangan Midnight to any ricer, most definitely, it will always spark a conversation. You’ve got a humble Toyota 86 and a passionate Datsun DevilZ, how about some Honda love? Well, While browsing through my saved pictures, I went through a Honda folder and found this picture of a promising Mid-engine, wide body CRX circulated the internets months or years ago..if you don’t remember, here’s the picture..

Then I found some scans I saved of a 2-volume manga tittled King by K. Shimura. It was about a Takumi lookin’ school teacher who converts his 1st Gen CR-X from FF to MR to become the “king” of the Keisuke touge pass.

I was hoping that the CRX stayed with the FR layout and twin cam VTEC but it had a modified mid-mounted Subaru boxer. I liked that it had a custom wide body kit, and SSR MK2s on a 1st gen CRX.

OTWeb: Skyline Famiry Tree

Our friends at Nissan Performance posted this on their FB fan page and I thought it was interesting to see how the skyline has evolved. Not only when it comes to appearance but as well as performance and technology. My personal favorites would be the hakosuka, kenmeri and R33 GTR LM. What is your favorite generation GTR and why?

Lifestyle: On the shoot.

Danh is the man!

Photo shoots. As our friends from Speedhunters, Fatlace, Stanceworks, etc. can tell you….. it is by no means a simple task. It takes planning. It takes scheduling a day that accommodates both parties, it involves picking out a spot unique for the car that has not been whored out all over the internet, it is dependent on traffic, and there is a a perfect time frame to shoot where the sun is masked just enough that it bears no shadows. That is only the beginning….after spending up to 4 hours on a single shoot, you spend twice as long editing and water marking photos. So between all this planning and sacrificing free time from our everyday lives to put these shoots together, it is by no means a simple task. However, the satisfaction and appreciation I receive from everyone excited about us keeping the “Ricer Life” alive is all we need to keep this blog going and keep us loving what we do!

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Mazda 929/Sentia

When you hear VIP/Bippu/EXE style, you automatically think of Toyotas and Nissans. Usually, deciding upon what platform to begin with, it’s a norm to choose a higher end trim that came with full accessories, upgraded engine, and all that leather and wooden interior. Perfect examples are the Toyota Century,Majesta, Celsior, Aristo, and the Crown. From Nissan you have the Cima,Q45,Gloria, Cedric, and the President. The name Mazda is synonymous to Mazda Speed, ZoomZoomZoom, Monster RX7 and the gokart miata; how about a Bippu Mazda? Yup, they exist, the Sentia in Japan and 929 to the rest of the world.

Started production in the early 90s, the Sentia was Mazda’s entry into the FR semi-luxury sedan game. It was imported to the Northern American market and was badged the 929. However, the 929’s US career was short lived due to a lack of interest in non-luxury(Lexus/Infiniti) brand J-spec midsize sedan, just the same reason why Toyota pulled the Cressida out of the line in 92.

Obviously, the Sentia may be considered the “Dark Horse” in the Bippu-world, with the right kit, shoes, refined interior and a black tie to match, it can definitely break necks from Toyota and Nissan owners.

“It is with heavy hearts that we pass along this bit of news we received today. Texas drifter Tyler Cox passed away today. Tyler was involved in a non-motorsports related accident recently, and stopped breathing for a period of time. Paramedics were able to keep him alive and he was in ICU for the past few days, but passed away today. Tyler competed in the NOPI Drift and D1 USA events, and was a frequent driver at many of the local grassroots events in Texas. Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of Tyler Cox.”

Our thoughts and prayers also go to the family of Tyler Cox and we hope that they find the strength to get through this difficult time.
