OTWeb: Rocky Auto Fairlady Z from TAS 2010

Although I can appreciate a very super cleanly executed Vintage S30 Z such as Van’s 73′ 240Z, I have a very strong passion for new school flavor on old school JDM rides.

As I read through Ben Schaffer’s The Real JDM blog to see what perspectives he had on this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, he featured a very gnarly S31 Datsun Z that embodies all of the new school traits of the JDM tuning scene mixed with the classic styling of the original Japanese muscle cars.

Keeping it old school: Van Luong’s 73′ Datsun 240Z.

There are people that like cars, and then there are people who are car enthusiasts. There are car enthusiasts that are brand loyal and there are some who love all kinds of cars, place of origin no matter. I would consider myself one of these types, as I have an admiration of all types of vehicles that go fast on four wheels.

And then there are car fanatics that are borderline obsessive. Van Luong falls into the latter category, and has the proof to back up that claim. The specimen in question is a pristine and restored 1973 Datsun 240Z that’s older than pretty much our entire readership.

Random Snap: An everyday Accord EuroR

While I was in Japan, I was constantly fighting the urge to put away my 8 pound DSLR camera as me and my buddy would walk just about everywhere in Tokyo. Walking around for miles was a very common thing to do while vacationing in Tokyo. The reason why I would keep that 8 pound weight around my neck was so that I could capture any car that I found interesting. I snapped a ton of pictures, and what’s funny is the locals would look at me like I was nuts. Most tourists take photos of buildings and monuments, not everyday, normal cars. What designates a “normal” car? I have no clue, but when I took pictures of this obviously modified TSX/Accord EuroR, I got that look.

Does this car look too sedate? Not to me.

OTWeb Video: Ken Block’s DC vid on Crystal Meth.

I called in to my job today on account that i’m getting sick, and with my line of work, I have to talk to a lot of people. So while the rain was killing any hopes that I could at least wash my car today, I sat down and watched some DVD’s that I haven’t gotten around to doing yet. One of those DVD’s, DSport DVD #10, has the Ken Block Gymkhana 2 video on it. While it definitely looked great on my TV, it reminded me of a video that was posted on our man Alexi’s Blog, NoriYaro. In this version of the same video (kind of), it was remixed by a guy that MUST be trippin’ on acid. The result? Pure mayhem.

To get the full effect, you have to play this bad boy full screen.

Enjoy!
