Nostalgic Wednesdays:1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

Long before WRX and Evo’s roamed the roads, there was the Galant VR4 (E39A). It was the result of Mitsubishi to homologate the car for World Rally Championship Group A and N competition.  The Galant VR4 (“Viscous Realtime 4”) was equipped with a 2.0 litre twin cam turbocharged 4G63 engine and in its strongest variation produced 237hp and 224lbs of torque and full time 4wd. For a big car it managed spritely performance with a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and a quarter mile time of 15.3 seconds; wich makes this 4 door family car a potential ultimate “sleeper”. A forever classic, the Galant VR-4 represented a successful blend of the finest characteristics of a four-door sport sedan along with advanced high-performance engineering technology by Mitsubishi.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Old school Hip-Hop and Cars

Keepin’ it FRESH

Today’s Nostalgic Wednesday would be something different. If there’s something that triggers nostalgia the most for me, it would be music. Every song is tied to something memorable or an even in your life. Personally, 90’s hip-hop genre never fails in bringing back old memories. Some songs introduced me to some cars and I started liking them because of the music i was listening to. While Jamming to some Tribe Called Quest on my way home, I remembered that Q-Tip was featured in Rides Magazine featuring his love for some V-dubs.

“…Yo, this was around the time when I didn’t know no better

Juney moved around in a tinted out jetta…”

I was impressed by Q-Tip; not only by his rhyming skills but the fact that he owns/owned 2 VW’s and he’s proud of it.

Other than Q-tip, we had Notorious B.I.G. rapping A LOT about his Lexus’.

” …sex is all I expect if they watch TV in the Lex”

” …Lexus LS four and a half, bullet glass tints if I want some ass”

“…Diamond Necklaces and stretch Lexus’s “

“… They heard about the Rolexes ad the Lexus”

and Jay-Z probably shares the same love for the Lex since he had them in his lyrics and most of his classic videos. If you ever noticed, Jay-Z possibly had the same (1st Gen)Lexus GS fleeing in his “Dead Presidents” Video (1996) and getting pulled over in his “99 Problems” video (2004)…that’s 8 years!  And lastly, living in Houston, who would ever forget Fat Pat’s “Tops Drop” video with some bagged Caddys parading with some booty shaking in the park. There are still a lot of songs that featured memorable rides but these are all that I can remember for now.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Honda City Turbo II

While waiting for Forza 4 for X-box to come out, i was playing some GT4(LOLyea). As I was looking at my garage, I saw a car that I thought was interesting, The Honda City Turbo II. In history, there are only 2 cars that I know of that were produced by Honda that were turbocharged; the F1 car, and the Honda City. The City also known as “the Bulldog” because of its aggressive face, was Hirotoshi Honda’s (MUGEN) masterpiece.

Nostalgic Wednesdays: One Bad Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo S

Houston traffic is something else. Ranked number 5, Houston was one of the worst cities for traffic in the US as of 2010. If you’re familiar with 610 loop and i10 interchange, it’s ranked #2 worst bottlenecks in the US as well. It’s so bad that I have to leave an hour and a half early for a 17mi drive to work. I needed to keep my self sane;other than just listening to morning radio, i had to entertain myself by observing every car around me crawling the freeway. Regularly I see a black carlsson e55 AMG, BMW v12 750i, but  this morning, I was lucky; I heard a rumble trailing behind me. It didn’t sound like a V8 on magnaflows, it was something different. It rolled by my side and brought a smile to my face; it was a black 964 3.6 Turbo S! But what really made me excited was…

Nostalgic Wednesdays: BMW 2002tii

Among BMW enthusiasts, one of the most desirable cars is the 2002tii. On one Saturday afternoon, I had an arrangement to meet up this guy and buy his wheels. After inspecting the goods I bought, we had a small chat about his current project; a 2002tii. He owned a mint 98′ E36 m3, had to sell it for a non-running condition 2002tii and bought a beat-up 92′ Accord for daily; That’s how desirable the 2002tii was. What makes this compact German so wanted by most? Here are some little known facts about the 2002tii.

The BMW 2002tii was built from 1968-1976. It was an evolutionary 2-door sport sedan (2-door sedan?) that  spurred to the creation of the 3-series.  Introduced in the US, the 2002tii became one of the 1st “cult-cars” and was one of the reasons why the BMWCCA was born. It was BMW’s lifesaver from a  bankruptcy and it  marked a name for BMW in the US.

yea like my car yes?
