What’s up my fellow ricers!! I’d like to formally introduce myself to you guys. My name is Tim Durnak! I have joined the Mayday team this year to bring some coverage from the East Coast as well as Formula Drift coverage. This past weekend i was in Long Beach catching the action as we watched Fredric Aasbo take the podium in Round 1. That set the tone for what is going to be an exciting season of Formula Drift as Round 1 ended with minutes to spare before they had to reopen the streets of Long Beach.
It was a crazy beginning to the Top 32 as we saw Number 1 qualifier Forrest Wang get knocked out in the first round by Matt Coffman (who qualified 32). Then in the Top 16 Chris Forsberg had a bad lead run taking a super shallow line leading to his exit against Patrick Mourdant. Also in the top 16 we saw Dai Yoshihara get knocked out by Matt Field, who absolutely drove his heart out this weekend. Ryan Tuerck had 5 minutes to change his diff in the Final Four and he didnt get it done in time. Would that have changed the outcome his battle with Aasbo? With minutes to spare before they had to open the streets Aasbo beat Bakchis in an intense battle. Would it have gone One More Time if the streets didn’t have to open?
Enough Jibber Jabber lets move on to the photos!!
