The birthplace of FormulaD.... Road Atlanta.
We’re back at it again with coverage from Round 2. It was Mayday’s 2nd time at the track and my first time there if that makes any sense. My plan for the weekend was to fly in early on Friday, rent a car and drive straight to Road Atlanta in time for the media meeting, get a couple shots here and there, while Mikey flies up North to pick up parts for his Project 240: Voltron. After he had picked up his parts, Mikey would drive back to Houston. I told him to stop by FormulaD since it’s on the way and so he did…. at 5am.

Mikey flies up North and arrives at a busy airport...

Waiting area to be picked up...
Once I arrive to Road Atlanta, I hit up fellow Houstonian Jason Scott of SouthrnFresh to see where he was at. He told me to meet him on top of the hill… why?

Of course.

A view of the paddock.

My intention of getting to FormulaD so early was to not miss the media meeting... instead I was too early, fuck!

Instead of waiting 4 hrs for the media meeting, I took a look around the paddock area. This is Kenny Moen's rumored 750HP Supra that he will replace the 350Z with sometime this year. Can't wait to see another 2J powered car back on the track.

Papa Smurf would proudly drive this Honda 2000 around.

Blue on white... how papa smurf likes it.

Voltex errthang.

Now that's a daily driver!

Even the SS Editor approves!

Zenmotors participating in the Global Time Attack.

Fancy pulleys

At the Achilles booth, they got tires mounted and ready for use. These tires aren't even available in the US!

Achilles allstar lineup.

Gotta remember to Instagram!

OMG Drift getting ready for the public...

I think I prefer Gregg's car without decals. Much cleaner.

KEEP DRIFTING FUN!

You're my boy, Blue!

Chelsea's E46 drift chariot and his badass mini tow truck.

Is this really a drift car??

Matt Fields ready to drop some banana peels....

Only Danny George would be able to handle all that power in a little Miata...

I think he wanted to kiss me...

Yoshioka's levitating BRZ at the paddock....

Will Parson's paddock... his car and tow bed...

Gotta give him credit for coming out on a minimal budget from Texas... heard he even had to change his clutch in one of the Southrnfresh guy's garage...

When the light hits it just right....

There you go...

It was time for the driver's meeting....

As you can see, the driver's were all paying attention closely....

I think the driver's pitt crew members were paying better attention than they were...

Ok, nevermind...

Being fashionably late.... Matt powers everyone...

Larry was not amused with Jason sitting on the floor...

The BBC lens ladies and gentlemen...

Those kids will probably grow up to become some badass drifters...

Once the meeting ended, everyone took their golf carts to the drivers meet and greet....

Autograph time!

Always good to see Driver interacting with fans...

How does a driver be a fan favorite? Give out free shit!

It was the media's turn to interact with the drivers...

Gotta have looks to compete as well...

Ever wonder how SH's Larry Chen gets badass shots from diff point of views? There ya go...

Check out this clean 86 Levin at the WMD booth...

Another shot from a different angle of this clean IS350....

Daily drivers aren't clean so don't expect this car to be....

Chelsea heads to the track... which is where I'm about to as well...

Traveling around the track without a golf cart sucks ass... note to self: rent car next year... thanks for the ride Antonio!

DMac prepares his S14...

Aasbo need to bring over his Nascar powered GT86 over here already...

What would drift cars look like with all the sponsor stickers....

I need to slow down my shutter speed some more to get some burnout action...

That's a little bit better... could be slower though....

Vaughn Gittin Jr... those eyes...

Ryan Tuerck's 2JZ RB FRS covered in Retaks livery....

It was time to take practice laps around the track....

Walker Wilkerson managed to qualifty 32nd which meant he had to go up against.... seed #1. Tough break since he had to go up against Aasbo...

Due to mechanical failures, Ken Gushi wasn't able to qualify this round...

Fellow Texas Drifter, Josh Steele, missed the qualifying by 1 spot...

The other Texan, Will Parson's on the other hand qualified 26 and had to go up against Matt Powers...

I just called this guy the backwards entry guy because that's all he did... pretty sick...

Rare to see a rotary powered FD drift nowadays...

Forest Wang showing style over speed way of drifting...

The people's champ...

Tangelo racing 2AZ powered RB kitted FRS... didn't qualify this round...

....

Yeah... you're not supposed to knock those off the track...

Night drifting was pretty challenging for me to shoot since I don't do it too often...

I still made it work somehow...

And we're done with day 1 of FormulaD!
I’m not sure who actually visits our blog since there are at least 800 hits a day, but I’d like to thank you. Day 2 will be posted shortly so stay tuned!
