Today’s Nostalgic Wednesday would not be about a car, a bike not even a boat; it would be about a combination of iconic colors. Gulf Powder Blue and Marigold orange, are combination of colors that are not only photogenic but also had made an impact in the world of motorsports racing.
The famous Gulf livery colours originated when Gulf Oil Corporation in 1967 first took over the sponsorship of the J.W. Automotive Engineering Ltd., also known as JWAE. The official Gulf sponsored cars that sported the colors were the Ford GT40 and Mirage Prototype that competed in the 24 Hr LeMans.
Non-commercial of the colors may be used in motorsport applications is possible, though any open use of the Gulf logo with the colours should be agreed in advance with Gulf Oil International.
Today, we see the signature colors not only on sponsored race cars but on everything that is motorsports related.
The whole aura of the car changes and screams race car when the Gulf livery is in effect. I would say this livery would be in my top 10 list but not my number one. Stay tuned for my automotive motorsports top 10 liveries list. 😉
