Hotlanta lived up to its name this year. Last year when i was down in Braselton for Round 2 it rained and was not as hot as it was this year. Wednesday night i got into my car and started the 12 hour drive to Georgia with a fellow photographer. He did not drive manual, so the 12 hour drive was up to me to conquer. 13 hours later and a 15 minute nap in a BP gas station we arrived at Road Atlanta. We went straight to the track to pick up our media credentials and make the meeting.
Moving forward to practice and qualifying on Friday where it seemed like everyone wanted to go in the kitty litter or throw up some dirt. It was probably about 90 degrees, pure sun, no clouds. No matter how much sunscreen you put on you were still getting sunburned. The weather in Georgia is known to go from one extreme to another and later in the day the temperature dropped significantly and dark clouds rolled in. It did not rain but made for interesting shots during qualifying.
Last but not least the fans in Atlanta are the best fans of the Formula Drift circuit. From Team Rowdy to Drift Scum, these guys go nuts. Team Rowdy made signs all night Saturday for the main competition, and Drift Scum booed and gave Vaughn Gittin Jr the finger every time he entered the keyhole.
Lets just say once again Road Atlanta lived up to its name once again. If you ever go, make sure you rent a golf cart and get there early. Enough with the talking, lets get on to the pictures!
