AMG stands for Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach (I have no clue how to pronounce that), a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz car maker, but to me, it’s a hell of a lot easier to remember AMG as A MENDACIOUS GIRL.
What’s a mendacious girl, you ask? Basically, a two faced woman who’s good at being quite deceitful.

Most men will tell you that their ideal woman is a respectable, classy lady by day, and a complete slut at night. Hey, I can’t speak for all men, but there is a bit of truth behind this saying, and Tot Tuong’s C63 AMG is the proverbial proof in the pudding.
Continuing our coverage of MaydayGarage’s trip to the Big Easy, how I stumbled across this particular big body sedan was not by sight, but rather, by sound. When me and Mikey were checking out the local scene in New Orleans, I witnessed many domestic cars flex a little bit of V8 muscle as they blasted away into the night on a very deserted road near the car meet we were attending. Trans-Am’s, Camaro’s, Corvettes and all different types of domestic cars were doing the horsepower dance on the street while I was observing some of the parked cars in the lot. It wasn’t until I heard a slightly different, but beastly grunt of a car that I turned my head to check out where and what it was coming from.

I kept scanning the area with my squinty eyes and all I could make out was more domestic cars and some European car on huge 20 inch wheels. At this exact moment, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, “no way”. Sure enough, that “European car on 20’s” was lighting up the cool summer air with piles of smoke billowing from the rear tires. I had to see this for myself.

Upon first glance, this C63 AMG looks like most that come from the factory except it had some really nice and classy 20″ HRE 840R’s all the way around in gunmetal which matched up perfectly with the black housing headlights and front carbon fiber lip spoiler. Yet despite those classy 6 inch stilettos, this girl was packing some serious heat as the mating call echoing out of it’s stainless tips let everyone in a 5 mile radius know that she came to party. After talking to Tot, the owner of this monster, it turns out that he and I share the same outlook on building cars, that is to say, doing something out of the norm. So I told him I’d be back in a month, and we’d shoot the car.

While we were moving the car through the tight streets of The French Quarter in the heart of New Orleans, Danh, our photographer, had a somewhat hard time shooting the car as people kept stopping in front of Tot’s C63 to check out the wheels and carbon trunk. I sat back and watched as Tot would talk to so many passing bystanders, mainly old white guys, talk cars and specs with this rather young asian guy in an all purple attire. It was an absolute eye opener to watch two completely different types of guys talk to each other in the only language they both knew- automotive lingo.

When JohnP asked me what cars we were covering, I had mentioned Tot’s C63, and naturally, John asked me what it looked like. My reply was an immediate, “it’s not how the car looks, it’s how it sounds. We need to get this car on video”. On this trip to Louisiana, we really pushed for video coverage of the cars we were shooting (more on this later), and thankfully, Newtown was able to come with us for the weekend to fulfill my request. After telling Newton we’d be shooting a crazy loud C63 AMG, he asked if Tot would be cool with laying down a fatty while we caught it on video. Tot was all smiles when I had approached him on the matter, so we were good to go. Hearing the car blast through an undisclosed industrial area made all of us giddy, and also tone deaf, but most definitely worth it. Something about seeing a really nice luxurious Mercedes Benz in a back alley road laying some serious rubber on 20″ HRE’s made the moment all too surreal.

When Tot took off for the last time and drove home, I actually thought about what I would write about when describing his car. At first I thought about a business guy in a suit by day and a superhero at night, but for some reason, I kept thinking his car was this seductive lady that is well mannered around your parents and friends, but was an absolute freak in the bed at night. I think the latter is definitely more accurate. Thankfully, she didn’t leave us any STD’s, but she did leave us with a very nasty ringing in our ears.

Words by Tot:
