Today’s Nostalgic Wednesday is about the Skyline C210, also known as the “Skyline Japan”. Launched in 77, the C210 was the predecesor to the C110 “kenmeri”. Since the C210 is one of the not so popular skylines, I can share a little intel about this square beauty.
The C210 had a variety of engines to choose from depending on the trim. There were 5 straight-four and 5 inline-six optional engines. In April 1980, the C210 Skyline GT-EX (replaced the GT-R)featured a 2 liter L20ET turbo engine and it was the first Japanese production vehicle ever use a turbo-charged engine. The C210 was produced in 3 body styles; a 4-door saloon, 2-door GT, and the 5-door “rare” wagon.
Even though the C210 is not the popular kid in the skyline class, nor it never got the GT-R badge and it was never raced; it built its reputation almost as popular as the “kenmeri” as base platform for “kyusha” or “yanki” styled cars. Many of us ricers drool and dream about owning a Skyline specially if its a GTR, a hakosuka, a DR30, a kenmeri or a yonmeri; and I’ve never heard anyone say “oh Skyline? I want a 210.”
It’s also given that when we hear the name “Nissan Skyline” we think of the all-mighty GTR, the fast and legendary speed monster. But sometimes we neglect the fact that there are a couple of other cars in the Skyline family that were ment to be a fun cruiser. Specially if you’re the type who likes to drive along the country side enjoying the view or cruise the empty streets around 2 in the morning; then i suggest a slammed kyusha-styled C210 would fit you perfectly.
