For today’s Nostalgic Wednesday, I wanted to share this interesting Honda Prelude. Interesting because it’s probably one of a kind full-racing FR spec Preludes built by a private team to compete the Thunder Saloons. Little is known about this Prelude because it was built by a private team, it won a couple of titles, and believe it or not, it’s not from Japan.

Rod Birley purchased the car brand new from the dealership and directly went straight to the shop. After 5 months, the car was completed. The Prelude had undergone a lot of changes and modifications. The suspension was from a Group C2 Spice sports car with Hewland transaxle, the  hubs were centre locking with BBS wheels and AP air jacks. Like every European racing enthusiast, they love their Fords. As ludicrous as it may sound to Honda fans, this prelude was fitted with a Ford Cosworth engine.

How it was before the Aerodynamic bodywork.

As far as information about this car, like I said, little is known about this Honda Prelude but one thing’s for sure; It’s not about where the car is built, what brand of parts it has, or who’s the driver, it’s all about the passion for racing that draws all enthusiasts together. This Prelude proves that this type of styling on a j-spec car is not limited to be  in a Japanese circuit racing.
