East coast. West Coast. If you ever log online to drift oriented websites such as Drifting.com, Zilvia, Club4AG, and Ziptied, you’ll always hear about exciting, mob inducing, big drift events such as the Ziptied All-Star Bash. But where does Texas fall? East Coast? West Coast? Screw all that noise, Texas is bigger than both! So why can’t we have one here in the south where all things are big?
Enter FabricatedMotorsports‘ LoneStar Bash. 10 car tandems? Try at least 12. 50mph entry speeds? Psssssh. Try 100mph. And best of all, the best and coolest drift cars in the south were there in full force.
As the cool morning gave way to the slightly warmer early afternoon, the tire smoke filled the air as the tires lit up the skies. The track looked like a huge bag of spilled skittles as the colorful drift cars slid one by one within mere feet of each other.
At a lot of drift events, the Nissan 240sx is a normal sight. While there were plenty of S13’s and S14’s, there was an awesome variety of different cars to watch get sideways. Miatas, Cressidas, M3’s, Corollas, FC’s, FD’s and even a camaro and a Pontiac G8 came out to play in Mineral Wells, TX.
I got to ride with Ameen Rizvi of 786 Motoring in his newly 2JZGTE swapped Toyota Cressida for my first ride in Mineral Wells. Wow. So intense. If I wasn’t such a girl, I would have took pictures of the six car train directly to my right as we slid at damn near 90 mph through the first long turn. Such an awesome feeling to see cars directly to your left and right as Ameen negotiates the turns and transitions at such a high speed. The ride is exhilarating, and I immediately knew why so many cars from so many states came out.
As with every drift event, there are always mishaps when trying to push the absolute limit of the car. Cars were not without casualties, as motors from various cars blew, tires blowing out and ripping bumpers, rims flying off of RX-7’s, and even KA24DE’s catching fire right there on the track. Wild times, but everyone shakes it off, and continues to have fun! No animosity here.
Another great thing about LoneStar Bash was the sheer amount of people spectating. There were hordes of crowds all lined up near the track. No gates, no poles, no one to tell you that you were too close to the track. You only had your common sense. Being near the track and smelling the tires was definitely a highlight as a spectator. Groups of Toyota Yaris’, bikes, and even FWD Hondas were out to watch the RWD cars drift within a few feet of each other.
Catching up with people you haven’t seen in a while was also great. Everywhere you looked, people were glad to see each other, and catching up on what’s new with each others cars.
And there were also a ton of photos being taken by Pro’s, semi-pro’s, and enthusiastic fans. Hence, I didn’t take a lot of action photos cause I knew everyone else did. Plus, my 200mm lens just wasn’t good enough. Time to invest in a 400mm lens!
I’ll let the rest of the pictures give you an idea of the event:
That’s it from me, JohnP had also taken a few pics as well, and I’m sure he’ll be posting a few in the next few days.
To summarize, I had a freaking blast this past weekend! Drift cars, stanced cars, drinking, and sleeping on Hotel room floors was just the right combination of an awesome time!
