Nostalgic Wednesdays:BRE 1971 Datsun 510

From humble beginnings, the Datsun 510 roadster was introduced to the US market as an entry level non-aggressive coupe. A well engineered and affordable car that saw itself competing with the “all-American”  muscle cars.

Sales did good during its debut, but it proved nothing, Datsun/Nissan wanted more;

what better way to sell the Nissan/Datsun image than to include the 510 in a national racing competition; The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Trans-AM 2.5 Series.

Brock’s Racing Enterprises (BRE), a familiar name in tuning domestics and imports, stepped in and formed their own Datsun Racing Team. The rest my friends is history…

1971 SCCA TransAm 2.5 series,  guess who murked BMW 2002s, Herb Weston and his Alfa Romeo GTAs?

39 years after, John Morton and his championship Datsun; what a timeless beauty.

one of the best liveries in my list; BRE Livery = Datsun Racing.

The BRE Datsun 510, an iconic piece of engineering, proved to the American racing clubs that great things come from humble beginnings.
