Oh you know it’s that time again. Time to take a trip back to memory lane. When some of our readers think Nostalgic Wednesdays, they’re thinkin’ something from way back in the 90′s. We’re gonna take you there and to the 60′s with this week’s edition covering the infamous MoonEyes 1960 Toyota Crown! (Be sure to click on the Magazine pix so you can read it!)
Xtreme Drift Circuit is divided into multiple categories, one being the Drift Series, Time Attack and the other, a Car show. Like mentioned before, the rain had hindered the attendance quite a bit from both a spectator and participant perspective. Regardless, it was still a hell of a time.
This past weekend I made my way out to Fort Worth Texas for the 5th round of XDC. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty stoked for the event being that a national drift circuit hasn’t touched base on Texas soil in over 3 years. The weather however was not very welcoming as we arrived on track day as a band of rain happened to sit its ass right on Fort Worth for about 12 hours. The rain did eventually stop however right when the event started started and everything proceeded on schedule. There were some pretty clean cars out there and some unexpected results in this round of the drift circuit. All of which I will get to in part one. Until then, take a brief look at what was going on this weekend at XDC rd. 5.
Plenty of People rocking CCWs nowadays, but this IS pulled it off really nice.
"more than meets the eye" - insert Peter Cullen.
Nice to see different platforms sitting pretty. One of the good things about the offset movement is everyone can play
No bullshitting, I think there was probably 50 G35s out there. Nuts!
Real Mugen, impressive!
Couple of nice Squats.
Dunno what I think about this color. Really the only thing that comes to mind is Cotton Candy, clean none the less!
The Rain stopped, and people rolled out to scope whips and cheer their local drifters go into battle.
They also come out to watch tow trucks race ambulances around the track.
In the next part of the coverage I will be back with some in depth coverage of the drifting that went down over the weekend.
Nate Hamilton, who podiumed for his first time in the XDC series with a second place win.
Chelsea Denofa, current points leader in the series suffering from suspension problems all day couldn't wasnt able to place. He did however pull a 100yd burnout, pretty impressive.
Pink Passion was on fire all weekend, this missile was no joke.
Chris Forsberg, professional drifting badass and one of the XDC judges at the event. I have mad respect for this dude and have followed him since he first went pro, he's legit.
And the guy who took home the cheese, Doug van der Brink. This turbo mustang was boss.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the real deal with photos from Chris Reno and Ervin Llanera, so stay tuned!
In our continuing effort to get our readers more information on retro rides and rice on Nostalgic Wednesdays, a question was posed on our Facebook Page about what you’d like to see today. When somebody mentioned The Midnight Club, I’m not gonna lie, the first thought that popped in my head was that terrible video game.
My second thought brought my senses back, and I immediately realized that he meant The Mid Night Club, Japan’s notorious street racing gang. Pay attention, i’m only doing this once!
It’s been a while since we’ve featured a car, hasn’t it? Me and JohnP have been wanting to feature a few cars lately, but we both vowed to wait for a car that would be out-of-this-world. I believe this Ferrari fit the bill.
You know this car means absolute business when you see center locking nuts on the wheels.
Super sleek and super low, absolutely everything on this Ferrari screams function.
This week we are a little busy here in Houston with this damn thing called work, so, for this week’s Nostalgic Wednesday I am going to touch briefly on this hella old drag clip I found on Youtube from the RRC Drag Festival in 1992 featured in Option video #21. Man, some of the styling in this video is completely out of control. Raised asses, dumped fronts, and mullets were in full effect.
One thing that I think is really cool about this era is that there are Japanese teams that also touched on American Top Fuel Drag, bad ass. Check out the “shorty at 2:39 of pt. 2, dayum! Another thing as well, back me up here, but is that a Yakuza manager at 6:51 & 7:07 of that Corvette funny car? Because he sticks out like a mother with those glasses and slicked back hair, madness.
Sit back, veg out and enjoy some old school drag and cool hair.
You guys may already know i’m a stickler for a well made car video. With that being said, check out this video from Pagani:
(Video tip: you really have to watch this bad boy in 1080p full screen)
More info from Pagani: “On the occasion of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the “Frecce Tricolori”, Pagani Automobili created the Zonda Tricolore as a tribute to the National Aerobatic Team.
In 2010 the aerobatic season of the Frecce Tricolori comes to its 50th anniversary, wich will be celebrated on 11th and 12th September at Rivolto Airport (info: www.aeronautica.difesa.it).
The Frecce Tricolori (Italian, literally Tricolour Arrows), officially known as the 313th Aerobatic Training Squadron is the demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, based at Rivolto Air Force Base, in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia, province of Udine. They were formed in 1961 as an Air Force team, replacing previous teams that had been sponsored by various commands by the end of the 1920s.
The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat aircraft capable of 898 km/h at sea level, with nine aircraft and a solo (the highest number of aircraft of any aerobatic team in the world).
The Frecce Tricolori belong to the legacy of the entire italian community.”
Plenty of familiar faces in this 12 year old Option clip. It’s funny, 1000hp + checks on RBs in 1998 and people in America are still getting hardons with 1000bhp Supras years later. Not hating on the Supra guys, but it would be nice to see them move on from being dyno queens…/rant. I love these old 400m battle videos, the damn Skylines squat and jump out of the hole like MaydayDavid chasing Tuesday .99 Popeye’s fried chicken. FAST!
