A little over a year has passed when Andy took his well executed, perfectly built RX-7 FD to the track. Two years of blood, sweat, and tears poured into this car for it all to be gone in the blink of an eye. Andy and I were supposed to do a photoshoot last year when I was struck with the news that the FD had crashed. It had rained heavily and it was very cold but that did not stop Andy. He had waited months for this day to come and a little cold weather and some rain was not going to stop him. Andy built this car to be driven, and driven hard. During his second to last session of the day he lost the rear coming out of the final chicane at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Instantly Andy knew his fate. There was no runoff and very slippery conditions, Andy start sliding. Unfortunately the inevitable happened next. Luckily he walked away suffering only a dislocated thumb. All the blood, sweat and tears gone just like that. It took him two months to step foot in the garage to assess the damages. Andy vowed to rebuild the car to its former glory, but came to find out the chassis was unrepairable.
So now he was on the hunt for another Fd. When Andy built that car he took no shortcuts, everything was authentic. But most importantly it was all done by himself. He decided to tackle the body work himself and after two long months he finally perfected it and his dream of owning a RE-Amemiya Fd became a reality or so he thought. By now you can start to see the type of builder Andy is. He builds his cars to perfection and they are meant to be driven. Like a Phoenix, Andy rose from the ashes and built a second perfect FD. Not many people build the same cars twice but Andy’s mind was set on a full authentic RE-Amemiya FD. Andy stripped this new chassis down to nothing and started from scratch. Using parts from the old chassis that were salvageable, Andy started his rebuild and in a quick 8 months he was complete. Only thing left now is for Andy to conquer the demons and take this one to the track.
Last but not least Andy would like to thank the guys over at BulletProof Automotive for the help in the rebuild.
