Quick Post: Re:Vision Holiday Car Meet.

So on my quest to find cool cars and meets here in the state of Maryland, my newfound friend Danny Rodman (the guy with the really awesome MX83 Cressida from 100 drifters of December), told me of a meet this past Friday in Rockville, MD, just a little outside of Washington D.C. Although I got there a tad late, there was still a small group of cars outside of this shop despite the frigid weather.
Variety was the thing to take from this meet as the cars ranged from Domestics, to VIP rides, to drift cars, to even high end exotics and electric cars, there was something for everyone.

I saw a small handful of cool cars but I couldn’t take many pictures of them because they were outside in the darkest of parking lots. I was hoping there’d be a little smidgen of light outside, but alas, I wasn’t so lucky. I did manage to take a few photos, but I won’t go into detail about this meet. I’m praying that car meets in Maryland aren’t in pitch black conditions like this one, cause it’s really hard to convey what goes on when you can’t even see your own hands!

Four door luxury car or two door sports car?

Pretty rare first gen All Trac with a weird looking second gen RC hood

You'd think I was at a brothel with how pink these lights were.

Inside the actual shop, people kept warm and checked out some local rides.

A very tidy S13 SR motor resides in this Sil-Eighty.

**insert GoldMember reference**

This S13 was very clean both in and out.

Tesla making it's rounds.

Seems kinda odd to see a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale next to a bunch of imports.

GTR FTW?

Till next time!

Nostalgic Wednesdays: Datsun G-Nose Z

a cutaway by Shin Yoshikawa

I know, I know Mayday Garage have been covering and posting a lot of Z’s here in our blog and in our Facebook; what can we say? we love the Datsun Z long time! Nowadays, finding a clean factory Datsun 240z would be considered a rare collectible. What makes the hunt more exiting for Z hunters is finding an original 240ZG in mint condition. Today’s Nostalgic Wednesday, we reminisce the Z that was never imported to the US market; The 240ZG.

Introduced in 1971, the S30 chasis had 2 variants, the regular 240z (sold both in Japan and in the US) and the 240Z-G (only in Japan). What’s the difference? The ZG compared to the marketed Z has the wider riveted over-fenders, fender mounted side-view mirrors, rear spoiler, acrylic glass headlight covers, and of course, the signature fiberglass extended G-nose front. OTWeb Video: Canon vs. Nikon.

Cats vs. Dogs, Ford vs. Chevy, Subaru vs. Mitsubishi, Mac vs. PC, Redskins vs. Cowboys. It seems everyone is divided when it comes to choosing a side in many debates. Another debate that seems to get a lot of “exposure” (like what I did there?) is the eternal Canon vs. Nikon war. War seems like a fitting description. Enjoy the video.

It’s a great thing that here at Mayday Garage, we don’t discriminate. We use both camera systems. We are extremely open to different types of cameras and also cars. Maybe that’s why we get along so well?

Event Coverage: 100 Drifters of December.

What a better way to start off my recent move to Maryland than a big grassroots drift event? Drift Nirvana’s yearly 100 drifters of December is exactly what it sounds like, to assemble 100+ drifters and invade every inch of Summit Point Motorsports park, a huge track nestled in a small town in West Virginia. What makes this event unique isn’t just the sheer amount of local and semi-pro drifters sliding around, but rather how they give drifters a choice on which track they’d like to drift. Yes. Multiple tracks all at once, kind of like how they do it at Ebisu in Japan.

S14's zooming by was a normal occurrence.

This S14 seems reaaaaal familiar...

A Passion for Tarmac Rallying: Paulie’s WRC Tarmac Project

I told myself I wouldn’t wake up at 5 a.m. for a shoot anymore, but to turn down a chance to shoot one of the cleanest Subaru WRXs in the States, I made myself get up even though I had a sick stomach virus that caused some mad toilet action the night before.  JohnP and I met up with Paulie at 6 a.m. in downtown Fort Worth while the other Mayday guys were still asleep back at the hotel.  This is the day after WekFest Forth Worth by the way. Mayday Mikey, David, Venn, and Danny partied all nite so they weren’t able to make it and our other ace photographer Khiem…. well he doesn’t like to get up at 6 a.m.

It was early... really early.

We arrived at the location early, but it was still too dark to shoot, so Paulie and his wife started cleaning up the WRX a bit more before we started shooting.  Their car was already clean since the car showed at WekFest Ft.Worth, but they wanted the car to be extra, extra clean since it was their first feature. That’s being meticulous.

It's already clean man... you're in the shot now....

Random Sighting: Slammed Riviera.

Oftentimes I’ll come across a cool car, snap some photos of it and move on. It’s when I upload them onto my computer is when I have doubts that I should even edit the photo and put it up on the blog. I think twice before posting domestic cars on our blog for the simple fact or fear that I will alienate some of our readers. But when I really think about it, who cares? It’s a cool car, and I can pretty much do whatever I want so why not.

I came across this first generation Buick Riviera on my way out of Houston last week and had to jump out of my ricey car and shoot it. I know the brand name Buick is now associated with old geezers that wear Depends and are the types of cars you try to avoid because of the captains piloting their boats, but back in 1962 when Buick first released these coupes to compete with the Ford Thunderbirds, they were actually really nice to look at. Powered by either a 325hp or 340hp V8 engine, these two ton battletanks did battle on the streets ripping up quarter miles in under 16 seconds. I found this pristine example all dressed up in black in front of a clothing store, no less. It seems as if it was bagged, but damn, it looks great!

Gangsta!

Oh so low

Look, no old people driving!

They just don't make dashes like this anymore.

Keep your eyes peeled, if I get a good response from this post, I’ll post up some other vintage domestic cars that I’ve shot!

Nostalgic Wednesday: John Player Special Black Gold

Other than the Gulf Racing Livery, JPS would also be one of my favorite classic racing liveries.John Player’s sponsorship of Team Lotus began with the Lotus 49 in Gold Leaf colours at the 68 Monaco GP, they raced with the Lotus 72, and changed to the famous black and gold John Player Special colors in 1972. Meanwhile in Australia, BMW owned the JPS livery in touring car racing.

The BMW M3 that carried the colors brought in podium positions that In 1984, BMW released a limited-edition road version of its 323i touring car in JPS black and gold colors to the Australian market only.  Continue reading
