The Chreeno Archives: Tyler Calhoun’s Street WRX

A couple of months ago a good friend of mine, and local Houston photographer Chris Reno approached me about a couple of cars he had shot over the past year. Chris (Chreeno) is a local ricer as well and has some great taste in cars, so when we talked about a bit of collaboration I got pretty excited. One of the cars in discussion was Tyler Calhoun’s WRX, an ultra clean, tastefully modded street style beast that, when seen in person makes you break your neck. We like cars like this. Though we at Mayday Garage enjoy “over the top” barely street legal, ricer engaged wild builds, we know a clean car when we see one and Tyler’s Subie fits the bill.

Random Snap: Drifting Rig Shot

I follow a lot of blogs, and one hit me in a fuzzy way today. Ste Ho Photography is known for some pretty sick rig shots, and he actually took it one step further, by attempting to take a shot while a car was in mid-drift. The result?

Damn!

And for some of you guys that think it’s not an actual drift:

Awesome.

Lone Star Bash 2010: A Host’s Perspective.

“May 16, 2010 marked the date of the second Lone Star Bash. LSB as we will refer to it is an idea more than anything. Basically by labeling an event such as this, everyone knows exactly what event they need to ALL come out to, all at once. LSB is a date to bring everyone together. There are no draws like prize money, naked import models, trophies, cotton ball smoke on top of mirrors, or any of that. The draw is hanging out with awesome people that think alike, tandeming 10 cars deep with 100 mph entries, partying the night before, and being a part of something big. While the car show scene has died out in the last few years, leaving the giants HIN and NOPI dead, the drift scene has exploded. And yet it has stayed very grass roots at the same time.

FD Road Atlanta Random Snap: The Aero Challenged Drifter

As we prepare for our final Formula D Atlanta post tomorrow I would like to throw down this snap of quite possibly the most aerodynamically challenged competitive drifter.  I mean, it’s one thing if wind challenges you head on, but sideways as well…man, you have to have some skill.  No your eyes are not deceiving you, this is a Honda Element, and yes, it did haul some ass at Road Atlanta.

Formula D: A Chameleon Preview

As we continue to plow through photos from this past weekend at Formula D Road Atlanta I would like to take a minute to sit back and share this bad-ass Silvia S15 with everyone.  Formula D’s main event was held this past Saturday, but Friday consisted of the top 32 qualification for Saturday’s battle.  When all was said and done with the qualifiers, the top 32 professional drivers got to go at it, literally, for 2 hours on the track at night for a practice session.  It was truly an awesome experience because the character of the cars change COMPLETELY once the sun passes the horizon.  One car that expresses its character in such a drastic way in the heat of the night is Michihiro Takatori’s Drift Emporium S15. Aside from wild supercharged Titan V8 that is jammed in that bay, take a look at this brilliant chameleon paint job.  Damn this is gangster!

From Gold..

From Gold..

I only had one chance in this lighting to catch the various changes in the paint as this car raced by.  Displayed below is six different shades of the paint through the night light, however there was easily 10+ colors.  I just didn’t get them all.  For all of the hardparkers out there, this is how chameleon paint should work.

Hello Green!

Hello Green!

Now if that isn’t an awesome chameleon job, I don’t know what is.  Amazing!  If these photos gave you the whining sound of that supercharger and rumble of that massive V8 under that hood, you would definitely need a change of undies.  Stay tuned for the rest!
