This past weekend when we are out at Subaru for the ESX Dealer tour, there were many makes and models OTHER than Subaru’s that came out to witness the event. From Honda’s to Toyotas, people flocked as ESX stunted their drag car and Subaru hosted their shop day. There was one car however that stood out like a fat kid in dodge ball, and that car was Ty Nguyen’s, Audi A4. It was kind of funny how we encountered the car. We were standing around the event waiting for a raffle to start and a delivery van was somewhat blocking the entrance to the event, and when the van moved, someone tapped me on the shoulder and said, holy shit! I look back and asked what the hell the commotion was, and to my surprise there was this A4 Laying frame at a Subaru dealership, I paused, and knew we had to shoot it…and we only had 45 minutes to do so.
Ty Nguyen’s A4 is tastefully modded with very subtle additions that I think make the car flow very well. I think his tastes comes from his past experiences with cars, his last being a NSX with staggered 20′s in the rear and 19′s in the front, a sweet ride no doubt. After selling the NSX, he wanted something a “little” more practical, so up steps the A4.
Being a do it yourself kind of guy Ty installed his own air setup, running an “Air Bag It” setup, Ty mentions that it works great for daily driving, and also for the hard park. Also, as you can see the from the side profile of this Audi, Ty is running a custom staggered setup with his Vellano VSY’s with a black polished finish.
Not satisfied with the OEM lines of the A4, Ty knew that he had to do something about the front and rear of his whip. First thing was to yank the front and replace it with the S-line bumper and toss the rear and replace it with the OEM Audi S4 butt. Not so bad I’d say so myself.
Man, I love these damn lights. I think that from a production standpoint, this has got to be one of the most attractive aesthetic moves that any car manufacturer has made in the last couple of years. You know you did an awesome job at something when people buy an Audi for the front lights.
As far as motorworks, Ty being a classic tuner at heart, knew he couldn’t roll stock. So he went with the bare essentials, a tune from APR tuning and AEW Tuning exhaust. This gives Ty the extra go he needs for his daily commute. Also, for better throttle response he threw in a Sprint Booster. Ty also has some big plans for the turbo department of this car that I can’t wait to see.
With 45 minutes and a whole bunch of madness Ty was hella patient and cool dude as we were in and out asking him to back up, park sideways, hit switches up and down and dodge cars, an “On the Run” shoot for sure. Enjoy.
