Wek-Fest 2010: MaydayGarage coverage pt. 1

So, we continue our coverage of Wek-Fest. As we had mentioned before, we had been awoken to the sound of exhausts and scraping frames at about 6:00am on Sunday morning.  When I had run outside of the hotel to see what the hell was going on, it was apparent that cars were already starting to line up to enter the show. …

Infinite Line

Infinite Line

I believe that the cars rolled in to the show in a fashion of 4 waves, all of which wrapped that block.  I can only imagine what was going through people’s heads as they saw these lines of cars sitting on the street. One thing was for sure, this thing was hella organized considering the magnitude of cars and limited space that the event was held at.

The really cool thing about watching the cars line up was you could really grasp what many of these cars had to offer being that garage lighting actually hides some of the attention to detail.

However, although I love the fitment movement, I really hope it does not take away from peoples drive to create unique rides. Kind of  like what happened with the JDM movement.  Although, rims and a drop with aggressive fitment can make a cars character change drastically. Seeing the same form 100 times can get a little old.

So before I had mentioned how crowded the lines of spectators were.  In all honesty, when these people started to pour in to the show, it became very difficult to shoot.  But luckily, thanks to Mr. Wan we were able to at least get a good 45 minutes without the crowds.

So these are but a fraction of the pictures taken at the event, but you can get an idea of what we encountered while experiencing the Wek.  I got to give Mikeyyy some mad props for taking so many photos with just a 1 hour crash course on photography haha.

  1. Had an awesome time at this event! It was pretty much a 36 hour non-stop party the whole time. SHO NUFF

  2. You are not kidding with the wheel fitments, I just saw MotorMavens post too. Every car at this event was hellaflush! …Well at least the style is a good one.

  3. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enthusiasts being more mindful of wheel offsets and fitment. I really enjoy the style. I just hope that car builds can take fitment and stance into account but still stay as well rounded. Stance is great – but it shouldn’t be the only focus!

You see alot of very, very stock cars these days that are flush. Its a great starting point, but definitely not a stopping point!

  4. @MikaelHinojosa: Well, not EVERY car had good wheel fitment, but it might SEEM that way because I don’t take pictures of the wack fitment cars ya know.

@JamesEvins: You’re absolutely right. Fitment is a great starting point, but definitely NOT a stopping point. Couldn’t have said it better…
